VERO BEACH — Osceola Magnet School was placed on a brief lockdown Thursday morning following a bank robbery that occurred at US 1 and 12th Street, south of the school.
In an “abundance of caution” the school was placed on lockdown, according to Vero Beach Police Captain Brian Conway.
According to Indian River County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jeff Luther, the Seacoast National Bank branch located at US 1 and 12th Street was robbed shortly before 9:30 a.m.
Luther said a white man described as being in his early to mid-30s carrying a black bag entered the bank and implied he had a gun.
No gun was displayed, Luther said.
The man, standing between 5 feet and 5 feet 5 inches and weighing about 160 pounds wearing a light brown jacket and ball cap, left the bank with an unknown amount of money.
He fled the bank on foot south on US 1, Luther said.
Luther said he didn’t know if there were customers in the bank at the time. No injuries were reported.
Investigators are working the scene and reviewing surveillance video.
