Jazz pianist Freddie Leon joins Academy faculty

VERO BEACH — A newcomer to Vero Beach, Freddie Leon brings his talents in jazz piano to the Academy for the Performing Arts in Vero Beach. The Academy also offers instruction in voice, guitar, percussion, violin, brass and woodwinds for all ages.

For the past 35 years Leon has worked as a professional musician performing, conducting, composing, recording and arranging for a wide variety of ensembles, as well as teaching in several public and private music institutes, including the Miami-Dade County Public School System, the New York City Department of Education, the prestigious Sdoia-Satz Music Institute in Miami, and the Instituto Internacional Libertad in Los Cabos, Mexico.

In the 1990s, he co-founded and directed the Miami Latin Jazz Ensemble.

Leon has done graduate studies in musicology and ethnomusicology at the University of Maryland.
