Raymond Sofranko, 87, of Vero Beach, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011 at VNA Hospice House.
He was born Dec. 18, 1923, in Mount Pleasant, Pa.
Sofranko lived in Vero Beach for 10 years, coming from Lorain, Ohio.
Sofranko worked as a service representative in the construction equipment field for many years.
He is a heavily decorated soldier that served in World War II.
He was awarded five Bronze Stars, one Bronze Arrowhead and also the Purple Heart for his tour of duty in France, Italy and Germany.
He was assigned to the HHQ Company, 2nd Battalion, 15th infantry regiment, 3rd Division.
He was a member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Esther Urbanski Sofranko, of Vero Beach; son, Larry Sofranko, of Malta, Ill.; daughter, Kathy Polosky, of Lorain, Ohio; brothers, Bill Sofranko, of Cleveland, Ohio, Paul Sofranko, of California and Tom Sofranko, of Avon, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Sofranko was preceded in death by his son, Ray Sofranko; brothers, Edward, John, and Gene Sofranko and sister, Martha Kuncel.

Services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church.
