No injuries reported in plane crash near Sebastian Airport

SEBASTIAN — The pilot of an experimental Velocity airplane was uninjured in a crash near the Sebastian Municipal Airport Thursday around 9 a.m., according to the Sebastian Police Department.

The pilot, a man, was the plane’s only occupant.

Sebastian Police spokesman Officer Steve Marcinik said the plane went down on the Sebastian golf course, on an area that parallels the runway. The plane collided with trees.

Whether the pilot was attempting to take off or make a landing when it crashed was not immediately known.

Officer Marcinik said the cause of the crash remains under active investigation.

Operations at the airport have not been impacted by the crash, according to Officer Marcinik.
