Children encouraged to enter Indian River Soil, Water poster contest

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River Soil and Water Conservation District announces the topic for this year’s Poster Contest as “Soil to Spoon.” The contest is open to all Indian River County students in grades K through 5 who are attending public, private or home school in Indian River County.

Any student who wants to enter the contest can do so individually or through a particular school.

Designing a poster and researching the theme can give you a voice in your community on important conservation issues. Good posters tell important stories to the present and future generations. Posters capture people’s attention with a powerful graphic and inspire with a message to your community.

Any media may be used to create a flat or two-dimensional effect (paint, crayon, colored pencil, charcoal, stickers, or paper). Poster size must be between 8.5″ x 11″ and 22″ x 28″ and a completed entry form must be attached to the back of the poster to make it eligible for judging. For entry forms and additional contest rules please call the Conservation District Office at 772-770-5005 or visit our website at: www.irccdd.com/swcd/activities.htm

All posters are due at the Soil and Water Conservation District office by Dec. 14. Judging will take place on Jan. 9.

First place winning submissions will qualify for the State contest and possibly the National contest and will be showcased at the IRC Firefighters’ Fair.
