Vero Beach council member wants answers to bus shelter delay

VERO BEACH — A Vero Beach City Council member wants answers regarding the continued delay of a GoLine bus shelter on Miracle Mile and plans to get those answers today during the Vero Beach City Council meeting.

Councilwoman Tracy Carroll has placed the issue under her matters on the agenda, noting that the bus shelter for GoLine has been months in the making.

The Senior Resource Association “has waited many months for our city attorney to review the license agreement for the right-of-way, but (it) has not been completed,” Carroll wrote in her supporting documents calling for the discussion.

“Public and tourists using the public transportation throughout the rainy season have not had a shelter,” Carroll added. “This could have been built months ago had the attorney finalized the agreement.”

The city needs to have an agreement in place with the county, which oversees the Senior Resource Association, in order for the shelter to be built on the city’s right-of-way.

The shelter would be located on the eastbound side of Miracle Mile at the Treasure Coast Plaza.

Marie Moltime has been a frequent bus rider since her car broke down, using it to get from home to work and run errands.

“You have to have a place to sit,” she said of having a bus shelter on Miracle Mile. “I think it’s the humane thing to do.”

Also on Tuesday’s agenda is a discussion regarding how the sale of the city’s electric utility could reshape city government, a call for finding a permanent city attorney, and further discussion on the traffic situation on Live Oak Road on the barrier island.

The Vero Beach council meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. today at Vero Beach City Hall, 1053 20th Place.
