INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — U.S. Marshals captured a man late Wednesday wanted in connection with fatally shooting his girlfriend in front of her residence earlier this week. <a href="https://veronews.com/2026/08/16/nationwide-search-underway-for-man-in-fatal-shooting-at-mobile-home-parking-lot/">Law enforcement officers nationwide searched four days</a> for the suspect before locating him near West Virginia. Matthew Allen Waggle, 33, was taken into custody at a motel near Dunbar, West Virginia, according to the Indian River County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's detectives were working to bring Waggle back to Indian River County. "Thank you to the U.S. Marshals Service for safely taking Waggle into custody, and to our detectives, crime scene personnel, and Real Time Crime Center analysts who have not stopped working this case since the murder," sheriff's officials said in a statement. Deputies on Tuesday identified the woman killed as <a href="https://veronews.com/2026/08/18/deputies-id-woman-killed-in-sunday-shooting/">52-year-old Dawn Kriskewic</a>. The case was being investigated as a homicide. Deputies responded to reports of a woman found lying in the roadway about 8:41 a.m. Sunday in the 500 block of First Street, west of U.S. 1 and south of the Vero Beach city limits. The woman, later identified as Kriskewic, was found right outside of her residence in the mobile home lot, according to sheriff’s officials. Kriskewic had one gunshot wound. Deputies attempted to revive Kriskewic. Kriskewic was taken by ambulance to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, where doctors pronounced her dead. Deputies said Waggle’s last known address was in Sebastian. Sheriff's officials on Sunday released an alert on social media notifying the public to be on the lookout for Waggle. The motive for the shooting was unknown. More details were expected to be released at a Thursday news conference.
