Veterans Council to install new board Oct. 5

VERO BEACH — The Indian River County Veterans Council will install a new executive board at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 5 at the County Administration Building B Conference room.

County Commissioner Joe Flesher will officiate the event as the current president Eric “Rip” Wieler Lt Col, USMC, Ret will hand over the gavel to Martin Zickert, Col, USAF, Ret after a three year term.

The Veterans Council consists of 18 member organizations and is tasked to provide transportation for veterans to the West Palm Beach Veterans Medical Center. As the fund raising arm they are tasked to provide new buses for the veterans and do so by generous donations from the public. Over 250 veterans per month avail themselves of the transportation and the need increases as veterans age.

The public is invited to attend the event and are always welcome at the board meeting on the first Wednesday of each month.

The new board will be:

1st VP Mike Weiss

2nd VP Sam Kouns

Secretary Scott Carson

Treasurer Steve Sackman

Chaplain Dick Flick

Judge Advocate Vic Diaz
