Eleanor S. Mattern, 90, died Sept. 10, 2011, at her home.
She was a native of Reading, Pa., and lived in Vero Beach, coming from Pennsylvania.
She received a bachelor’s degree in home economics from Penn State University.
She was employed during wartime in Washington, D.C., by the Restaurant Association as a dietitian, first for the Navy in temporary buildings on the Mall and then for the Army Air Forces at Gravely Point.
She was active in the Woman’s Club, Woman’s Auxiliary of the Hollidays burg YMCA, a charter member of the Friends of the Hollidaysburg, Pa., Library, director of the Blair County, Pa., Music Association, TROA Ladies Club and the Community Church of Vero Beach.
Survivors include her daughters, Patricia M. Hursen, of Vero Beach, Barbara M. Babb, of Pawleys Island, S.C.; sister, Lucille S. Zahniser, of Boca Raton; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Mattern; and brother, Denton A. Steffy.

A chapel service and interment at Arlington National Cemetery, Va., will be at a later date.
