INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The weekend starts early with a concert in the park at the Vero Beach Museum of Art on Thursday and continues with a llama themed story hour Friday. Saturday’s events include a golf classic to benefit the Samaritan Center and a pink fire truck dedication to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Sunday is all about food with the annual Cupcake Challenge and a Spaghetti Dinner to benefit the Vero Beach Swimming and Diving team.
Thursday
- Warm Nights-Cool Music in the Park, 5-7 p.m. at the Vero Beach Museum of Art featuring flamenco, Latin, and jazz guitar by the Don Soledad Group.
- Intrepid Art Gallery Golden Seeds exhibition by Venezuelan sculptor Carolina Rojas Opening reception at 6 p.m. Exhibit continues through October 29.
Friday
- Llama, Llama Red Pajama Story Hour with Miss Julie and Llama, Llama!, 6:30 p.m. at the Vero Beach Book Center Children’s Store.
Saturday
- Farmer’s Market Oceanside, 8 a.m. to noon at the corner of Ocean Drive and Dahlia Lane, across from Humiston Park in Vero Beach.
- Bernard & Betty Egan Memorial Gold Classic at Hawks Nest Golf Club to benefit the Samaritan Center for Homeless Families.
- Pelican Island Audubon Society field trip to Sebastian Inlet State Park with guide Juanita Baker, 8:30 a.m.to 10:30 a.m. Catch the migrating shorebirds at Sebastian Inlet State Park at low tide when they gather to feed. Photographers welcome.
- “We Care to Wear Pink” pink fire truck dedication ceremony and kickoff to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, 10 a.m. at Station 2 (eastern side of Barber Bridge) hosted by the Fire Girls of Indian River County.
- Space Coast Symphony Orchestra presents an un-staged production of The Music Man at the Waxlax Center for the Performing Arts, with baritone Stephen Mumbert and soprano Eliza Dopira in the lead roles.
Saturday and Sunday
- Pelican Island Audubon Society needs volunteers to help to remove air potato vines on a property near ORCA (Oslo Riverfront Conservation Area) on the south side of Oslo Rd where it hopes to build its Audubon Community Center. Volunteers are needed for 2 hours from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. during the cooler part of the morning.
- State Special Olympics Aquatic Championship, 8 to 2 p.m. at the North County Aquatic Center in Sebastian.
- National Scholastic Surfing Association Surf Contest at the Sebastian Inlet State Park
- 24th Annual Autumn in the Park arts and crafts fair, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Riverside Park to benefit the Treasure Coast Pilot Club.
Sunday
- Mulligan’s Restaurant on the Indian River Lagoon in Sebastian will donate 20% of their breakfast proceeds, 8 a.m. to Noon to the Saint Sebastian Church on U.S. 1 in Sebastian.
- Main Street Vero Beach Sunday (Farmers) Market, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the corner of 14th Avenue & 21st Street.
- Second Annual Jeane Graves Charity Cupcake Challenge, 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Heritage Center to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
- Spaghetti Night Dinner (take-out available), 4:30 p.m. at the Italian American Club to benefit the Vero Beach High School Swimming and Diving team.
