Indian River man charged with attempted murder of fellow inmate

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An Indian River County inmate in jail on charges of burglary and theft is now facing a charge of attempted murder on a fellow inmate.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, 25-year-old Stanley Robert David attacked a fellow inmate on Sept. 20. Witnesses told detectives that David approached the victim because the victim had “snitched” on David about a damaged phone in August.

The 12-page warrant affidavit reveals witness statements that describe David and the victim yelling from cell to cell about a fight the victim “owed” David for having “ratted” him out regarding the phone. The witnesses told detectives that they heard the men arguing over where to have the fight and then the fight happened.

During the fight, according to the affidavit, David knocked the victim unconscious and then stomped him in the head.

The victim sustained numerous injuries and was airlifted to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center for treatment. He received a fractured forehead, a fractured left eye socket, a fracture to his sinus, and a fracture to the bone that holds his upper teeth, among other injuries.

The victim told detectives that he remembered David approaching him about a fight but did not remember entering a cell to fight or even having the fight.

According to the affidavit, David declined to answer detectives’ questions without his attorney present.
