FELLSMERE — A candidate vying for a seat on the Fellsmere City Council has chosen to drop out of the race, citing conflicts with his work schedule.
Alberto DeLeon, of N. Bay Street, is a truck driver for BM Auto Inc., located in Fellsmere. He sent a letter to the City of Fellsmere dated Sept. 27 announcing his withdrawal.
To date, he had raised and spent $100 on his campaign, according to his treasury report.
“I have found it necessary to withdraw as a candidate for the elected position of Council Member,” DeLeon wrote to City Clerk Debbie Krages. “This is due to unforeseen issues between my work schedule and the city’s meetings; therefore I officially withdraw my candidacy.”
DeLeon was one of two challengers prepared to square off against incumbents Susan Adams, the city’s mayor, and Sara Savage.
John Luke, a long-time Fellsmere resident, is the lone challenger in the municipal race.
