Tickets go on sale for 2011-12 Vero Beach High School Performing Arts season

VERO BEACH — They have music, they have drama – they have it all! The Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Department remains committed to their goal of providing affordable and quality arts programs for Indian River County students and patrons in the upcoming season. Tickets to the 2011-2012 Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Season will go on sale to the public starting Tuesday, Oct.18.

With the first event on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2 pm, the VBHS Chorus will present “Choral Classics” with beautiful tunes such as John Lennon’s Imagine and Josh Groban’s arrangement of Let there be Peace on Earth led by Gregory Harris. A Silent Auction will begin prior to the concert and items will be distributed at the conclusion. Proceeds will benefit Indian River County students. To donate items for this Auction, please call 772-564-5688.

On Nov. 8 at 7:30 pm the VBHS Symphony Orchestra will perform “Vivaldi in Vero,” along with the Gifford Middle School Advanced Orchestra, led by Matt Stott. This concert will feature Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and other joyful Baroque masterpieces.

The students involved in the 2011-12 Competitive Theatre Ensemble will participate in “Blue Collar Blues” Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, Nov. 20 at 2 pm with special arrangement through Samuel French and directed by Dee Rose. This light comedy written by Denise Kay Dillard centers around a small town in the south when the local mill is laying off workers and the place is beginning to look like a ghost town. A parade of quaint characters graces the stage with juicy gossip.

The Performing Arts Department will perform Oliver! Feb. 17-19, 2012 presented through special arrangement with Tams-Witmark Music Library. Based on the Dickens novel, this show is about a sweet and innocent young boy who encounters a con man who trains children to be pickpockets. This classic family musical will delight everyone with songs like Food, Glorious Food, Where is Love?, As Long As He Needs Me, and Who Will Buy. These tickets are sold separately from the package at $10 for the upper Mezzanine level and $12 for the lower Orchestra level. Make your reservations early for the special Children’s Day when those 12 & under receive half off their admission.

In addition, music lovers will enjoy the 19th Annual Red, White & Blue Concert “American Images” on March 25-26, 2012 performed by the award-winning VBHS Symphonic & Jazz Bands, under the direction of James Sammons and Page Howell. With only $12 General Admission and $6 tickets for Veterans, it is the Patriotic Event of the Year.

You will experience much glee with the Vero Beach High School Chorus Department as they take you on a musical journey singing pieces from all of the lands in “Around the World in 80 Songs…or Less!” in May.
