Fellsmere’s fees to remove trees will replace trees

FELLSMERE — The Fellsmere City Council agreed Thursday night to all funds collected for tree removal to be placed in an account to replace trees.

The city has established an “arbor fund” that is used to purchase and plant trees around the city, typically on public property.

City Manager Jason Nunemaker explained to the council that a change to city’s land development fee schedule would allow the city to replace trees on private property where the city has an easement.

Such instances could include replacing trees that were removed due to sidewalk and drainage improvements.

The council had no discussion or debate on the matter and unanimously agreed to the changes to the land development fee schedule.
