The March of Dimes signature event, slated for Saturday, March 3, 2012 in Indian River County, is the community’s oldest and largest walking event. The six mile/one mile walk will start and finish at Riverside Park. Start time is 8:30 a.m.

Activities Include a continental breakfast, lunch, live entertainment and a kids corner with arts and crafts, face painting, bounce house and prize giveaways. Walkers can sign up for the event as a team or as an individual. Also, sponsors are being sought to set up and man Spirit Stations along the route.

“Seacoast has been a longtime supporter of March of Dimes and our associates take that commitment an extra mile by forming teams within each community that engage in fundraising activities,” noted. Dalton. “Last March the associates in Indian River County rallied together to raise over $6,900 through a variety of fundraising efforts to support our team.”

Seacoast National Bank, premier sponsor of all of the March for Babies events throughout the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee since 2000, will form individual teams again this year for walks in each of the four counties. The 2012 March for Babies will also mark the 29th year of the event and the participation by Indian River Public Schools and Seacoast National Bank.

“We had nearly 100 percent participation from all the schools last year and our goal is 100 percent participation this year,” remarked Dr. Adams. “Employees and students do a variety of fundraising projects to support teams ranging from hat days to mini walks on the school grounds. Last year, the schools raised $12,000 with Citrus Elementary as the top fundraising school for the past five years.”

The mission of the March of Dimes is to ensure the health of babies by preventing birth defects, infant mortality and premature birth. One in eight babies is born prematurely representing more than half a million babies each year.
