INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Six cafeteria monitors at three elementary schools will be able to keep an eye on children during lunch sooner rather than later.
The School Board held a special business meeting Thursday to address personnel recommendations that would have otherwise had to wait until Sept. 13.
“We’re making certain we’re taking care of business,” School Board member Carol Johnson said of taking time to have a special meeting.
The cafeteria monitors will be placed at Beachland, Dodgertown and Osceola Magnet.
“This is great,” member Claudia Jimenez said of being able to place monitors in those schools’ cafeterias, noting that principals often fill that role.
Member Karen Disney-Brombach also expressed appreciation of her fellow board members for not postponing the hirings.
“This is the right way to do things,” she said, adding that it shows the district is “light on its feet” and can adjust when needed.
Those hired include Elaine Bath and Anne-Lewis Dessart of Beachland Elementary, Margaret Nelson of Dodgertown Elementary, and Sherry Chaput and Theresa Pickett of Osceola Magnet.
Though approving the hiring of the monitors was the impetus for the special meeting, other School District personnel were also hired and transferred per Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Risk Management Pamela Lannon’s recommendations.
After the meeting, she said she was appreciative of the School Board’s willingness to take the time to meet outside of its regular schedule to take care of the district’s personnel needs.
