Tropical Depression 12 could become Tropical Storm Katia tonight

A tropical depression has formed in the eastern Atlantic and could strengthen to a tropical storm tonight, the National Hurricane Center is predicting.

The depression could become Tropical Storm Katia. Its current maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph with stronger gusts.

The depression is headed westward and is currently no threat to any land masses.

The five-day cone of probability shows that by Saturday, the depression could be approaching the West Indies but still no threat to land.

In the meantime, Tropical Storm Jose, which developed over the weekend has fizzled out. Its remnants are far off the coast of the northeastern U.S.
