Thomas Lathrop Chadwick, 84, Vero Beach

Thomas Lathrop Chadwick, 84, died Aug. 25, 2011.

He was born in Worchester, Mass., and lived in Vero Beach for 24 years, coming from Big Pine Key.

He joined the Merchant Marines and graduated from Gallops Island Radio School.

He sailed as a radio operator on various ships all over the world until 1951.

He served four years in the Army, two of them in Korea.

He was a member of the Vero Beach and Sebastian River power squadrons, Indian River Travel Professionals, American Legion, Eagles and Ernest Hemingway Look-Alike Society.

He graduated from Reading High School in 1944.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Barbara; daughter, Colette Colby, of Spencerport, N.Y.; son, Marc Chadwick, of South Riding, Va.; sister, Elizabeth Smith, of Durango, Colo.; former wife, Patricia Cooney; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Druid.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 2 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory in Vero Beach.
