Girl uninjured after jump from Barber Bridge in Vero Beach

VERO BEACH — A girl who jumped from the Barber Bridge in Vero Beach shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday is uninjured, the Vero Beach Police Department reported.

The girl, who has not been identified due to her age, was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.

“She was uncooperative,” Capt. Brian Conway said of the juvenile female. “I don’t believe we have her reasoning” for jumping.

A concerned citizen called the police department at 12:48 p.m. to report a female who had jumped from the bridge.

The Vero Beach Police Department responded, as did Indian River County Fire Rescue. Fire Rescue, however, was called off before arrival.

Capt. Conway said the girl jumped from the east end of the bridge on the south side and then swam to the dock near Riverside Café.
