Richard Edward Mitchell, 69, died Aug. 21, 2011 at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.
He was born in Providence, R.I., and lived in Vero Beach since 1978, coming from Massachusetts.
He served in the Army National Guard Reserves for six years.
Before retirement, he worked for the Indian River County Road and Bridge Department for 21 years.
He was an usher at St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Barbara Mitchell, of Vero Beach.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Helen Building Fund, 2085 Tallahassee Ave., Vero Beach, FL 32960.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home Chapel, with a funeral Mass at 2 p.m. Aug. 27 at St. Helen Catholic Church.
Burial will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery, Vero Beach.
