Deborah Ann Santoro, 53, Vero Beach

Deborah Ann Santoro, 53, died Aug. 7, 2011, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.

She was born in Norristown, Pa., and lived in Vero Beach for 30 years, coming from Plymouth Township, Pa.

She was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach.

She was vice president and financial principal for the Pennsylvania Group, Philadelphia.

She owned and operated her own independent accounting firm in Vero Beach, and served as the administrative director for The Wahlstrom Foundation in Vero Beach.

She served on the board of directors for the Hibiscus Children’s Center.

She volunteered with the Vero Beach Museum of Art, where she cofounded the Young Contemporaries; the Environmental Learning Center and Gifford Youth Activities Center.

She was a member and past president of Treasure Coast Women, FFWC.

She was an advocate and supporter of the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute.

She was a patient advocate helping those seeking treatment for kidney cancer.

Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Robert M. Santoro, of Vero Beach; father, Earl Shaffer, of Sebastian; mother, Ann Shaffer, of The Villages; brothers, David Shaffer, of Fort Lauderdale, Greg Shaffer, of Arlington, Va., and Chris Shaffer, of Audubon, Pa.

A gathering to celebrate her life will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory of Vero Beach.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Aug. 13 at St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
