Ronnie L. Hewett, 64, Vero Beach

Ronnie L. Hewett, 64, died Aug. 7, 2011, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.

He was born in Atlanta and lived in Vero Beach since 2005.

He worked for 41 years with the Boys & Girls Clubs.

He worked for clubs in Florida, South Carolina, California and the Pacific region.

He opened and raised funds for the largest school-based Boys & Girls Clubs organization in recent history in Thousand Oaks, Calif., and most recently headed a capital campaign that resulted in Indian River County Boys & Girls Clubs having three new clubs in Vero Beach, Sebastian and Fellsmere.

He served active duty in the Army for two years and Army Reserves for four years.

He attended the University of South Carolina and was an alumnus of St. Leo University with a degree in business administration.

He was a member of The Rotary Club of Vero Beach and the Vero Beach Country Club.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela P. Hewett; son, Ryan Ottman, of Lakeland; stepson, Bryan King, of Blythewood, S.C.; brothers, Tim and Gary Hewett, both of Columbia, S.C.; sister, Earline Tracy Huggins, of Columbia; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leamon and Dorothy Hewett.

A celebration of life will be at 3 p.m. Aug. 11 at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home, Vero Beach.
