HABITAT: Buying Smart – It’s A No-Brainer

When is buying smart NOT a good idea? Regardless of your own personal budget constraints, the current (gasp) economy, your “good feeling” about that lottery ticket or your overwhelming passion for shoes, ceramic frogs or baseball cards – being a discerning, informed shopper is better than, well, NOT being one.

And, if you live in or near Indian River County, you, as a thrift shopper, are IN LUCK! Why, you ask. Because there is a re-sale store nearby that is, literally, one of the best of its kind – in the country. (That’s “country” with an “r.”)

I am talking about the Habitat for Humanity Home Center re-store, located at the corner of US 1 and 45th Street, and I am talking about it as a frequent shopper. Sure, I am a Habitat staffer and, as such, could be considered a bit biased, but I am also a veteran thrift store shopper and know of what I speak.

PLUS, come over to my place and you’ll find – conservative estimate – at least a couple dozen items, large and small – that I have bought at the Home Center over the years.

From sinks to ovens, from pictures and home decor to various items for my horse, even a wonderful, comfy old chair from my favorite restaurant.

Now that Habitat is also doing deconstruction, you DIYers will also find an impressive range of building materials, flooring, cabinets, countertops, lighting, plumbing fixtures, molding , pavers. You get the drift.

On any given day, you’re likely to find pretty much whatever you’ve been looking for. Our prices are modest, the store is big, bright and pleasant (and doesn’t smell funny) AND now we’re open Monday through Saturday, 9 to 5.

Believe me when I say it would be worth your while to come take a look for yourself.

Oh, and, its cool inside.

Have a good one and HYDRATE.
