Weekend Winners – Things to do in Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – From a three-day Taste of Summer Event and a free day at the Environmental Learning Center to the grand opening of the Humane Society’s storefront at the Indian River Mall, a night out with pineapple at Sebastian businesses and a birthday celebration at the Sebastian Bark Park, there’s tons to see and do this weekend, so don’t let the threat of Tropical Storm Emily dampen your plans.

Friday

  • Join Sebastian businesses for an evening of food, fare, beverages, gifts and prizes and pineapple during the annual Light Up Your Grill Night from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
  • The Island Images Gallery of Hope will host an Artists Reception for the juried “High Dynamic Range” photography exhibit. The reception, from 7 to 9 p.m., kicks off the exhibit, which runs through Aug. 24.

Friday to Sunday

  • The Isles of Vero Beach retirement community invites the public to a free three-day Taste of Summer event. Friday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. – Build your own ice cream sundaes; Saturday, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. – Veterans appreciation supper; Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. – BBQ chicken and ribs with live sing-along music with Roger and Bill.

Saturday

  • The Farmer’s Market Oceanside, 8 a.m. to Noon at the corner of Ocean Drive and Dahlia Lane, across from Humiston Park in Vero Beach.
  • The Sebastian Bark Park celebrates its second anniversary from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. with guest speakers. A collection will be taken up for the Humane Society and HALO Animal Shelter.
  • Every day is wonderful at the Environmental Learning Center (ELC), but the first Saturday of every month is Fabulous…because it is free. Now is the time to see this wonderful part of Indian River County and enjoy all the summer experiences at ELC. Summer hours are 9 a.m. to Noon.
  • Grand opening celebration, 1 to 6 p.m. of the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County All For Paws store at the Indian River Mall.

Sunday

  • Epic Film Scores Concert presented by the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, 3 p.m. at the Community Church of Vero Beach. Saxophonist Frank Tuckwiller joins the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra to perform John Williams’ charming and captivating Escapades for Saxophone and Orchestra based on his film score for Catch Me if You Can.
