Hal Silvert, 90, died Aug. 2, 2011, at VNA Hospice House.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Vero Beach for 11 years, coming from Glen Cove, N.Y., and Brooklyn.
He was president of Silverset Brush Co. in New York City.
He served as a fighter pilot in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Lexington in the Pacific during World War II.
He served 25 years in the Naval Reserve and retired as squadron commander.
He was awarded the Silver Star, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, five air medals and the Presidential Unit Commendation Ribbon.
He was a member of Grand Harbor Golf and Beach Club, Vero Beach Codgers and Old Tail Hookers, all of Vero Beach.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Patricia Silvert, of Vero Beach; son, Neil Silvert, of Yellow Springs, Ohio; daughter, Donna Silvert, of Yellow Springs; and five grandchildren.
