Meldrew W. “Mel” Ash, 87, Sebastian

Meldrew W. “Mel” Ash, 87, died July 22, 2011.

He was born in Williamstown, W.Va., and lived in Sebastian since 1994, coming from Ohio, Fort Lauderdale and the Florida Keys.

He worked in several positions before retiring from the city of Pompano Beach’s Water and Sewer Department.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Forces as a gunner, flying more than 50 missions.

He received a Purple Heart.

Survivors include his daughters, Melanie Hendrix, of Sunrise, Stephanie Sweel, of Williamsburg, Va., and Andrea Ash, of Sebastian; stepdaughters, Debbie Beinke, of Danville, Calif., and Jody Parcheminer, of Akron, Ohio; special friends, Mike and Dori Carroll; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June Ash.

No formal services are planned.
