INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — If you attend Vero Beach High School home football games, the “go, fight, win,” that you’ll hear is as likely coming from residents of Indian River Estates East and West, ACTS Retirement-Life Communities.
As was seen this week, residents there are some of the loudest cheering in the stands at each of VBHS home football games.
In order to get residents pumped up for the upcoming season, the cheerleaders, led by Toni Kouns, and football team hosted a pep rally Tuesday for the team’s favorite seniors.
For a crowd of more than 200 residents, cheerleaders did stunts in the lobby, the football players mingled and then dined with residents, and new football Coach Lenny Jankowski fielded questions, followed by a rousing pep talk.
Indian River Estates has made an annual tradition of taking a bus full of red-clad residents to the Fighting Indians Home games for years.
“We thoroughly enjoyed the tailgate party and meeting the young people. Bob and I are looking forward to attending the football games. We were especially blessed to bring 101 year old Peg Friedrich’s with us last night as she’s been attending VBHS games for the past 21 years,” said Indian River Estates resident Barbara Bandrimer.
Summer workouts are being held now said Coach Jankowski. Fall camp will be Aug. 8, and the kickoff classic is set for Aug. 28
“Boosters are always needed,” said Wendy Bushong who coordinated the event for Indian River Estates. “Residents here have been diligent in financially supporting the team each year, but I know they need the greater community to get involved as well.”
