VERO BEACH — Over the past several months Seacoast employees, Cathy Roberts, Gene Broome and Sandy Singer have been reaching out to Indian River County youth, clients of nonprofit organizations, schools and senior living centers to facilitate Fraud Prevention and Financial Fitness seminars.
Financial Fitness topics include credit reports, how credit scores are calculated, how to improve credit scores, how to dispute items and how long items stay on their report. Free credit reports and analysis are reviewed with individuals as well.
Fraud Prevention seminars are designed to raise awareness about fraudulent schemes and how to recognize fraud. Actual counterfeit items received by Seacoast clients are provided as examples including fraudulent letters and e-mail scams. Identity Theft is also a component of this program, focusing on how to protect yourself and what to do if you suspect you are a victim of identity theft.
Many groups from area organizations have participated in Seacoast seminars including Falcon Trace HOA, Pointe West, Indian River County Sheriff’s Department, Home Instead, Visiting Nurse Association, The Club at Woodfield, Indian River School District – Dept. of Transportation, Harvest Food & Outreach Center, Children’s Home Society of Florida, Indian River Charter High School and Grove Isle.
“Seacoast’s seminars provide invaluable life skills training for the young adults, ages 18-23, who have aged out of the foster care system and are participating in our Transitional Living Program,” explained Jan Swink Huffert, Executive Director, Children’s Home Society of Florida, Treasure Coast Division. “We are so very grateful for Seacoast’s commitment to providing training for our clients who are among the most vulnerable individuals in our community.”
