Youth Guidance suggests summertime activities

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Looking for something to do over the summer? Youth Guidance is coordinating a number of free or inexpensive ideas for outings for unmatched children and their parents, or for mentor/mentee pairs to do together.

No need to call the Youth Guidance office to sign up for these – they’re suggested activities for you do to on their own. Please call the organizer numbers listed for each individual activity to verify the information.

Every Monday, 5 to 7:30 pm – YG Teen Chat Group at ‘The Loft’ located in Community Church, Vero. All Youth Guidance middle school and high school age kids welcome, as well as volunteers and mentors. A dynamic and fun mentoring experience for all! Dinner is provided. Call Piper at 226-3099 for more information. Free.

Every Thursday, 4:30-6:30 pm – Creative Characters at the Indian River County Main Library, for 6-12th graders. Features drama, debates, writing events, games and more! Students will create, plan and direct summer activities, as well as develop leadership skills and job training. Call 770-5060 for more information. Free.

Through July 31 Summer KidFest! 10 a.m. every day at the Majestic 11 Theater. New movie each week, so check for movie scheduled at www.majesticvero.com. Kids are free, adults are just $2 or free with the donation of a non-perishable food item to benefit the Salvation Army of Vero Beach. Located at 940 14th Lane, Vero Beach.

July 2 Free Admission Day at ELC, Bring the family for a day of exploration and discovery at the Environmental Learning Center, 255 , Live Oak Drive, Vero Beach. Call 589-5050 for more information. Free!

July 16 – Summer Time Food Festival at Gifford Park. Gifford Youth Orchestra is presenting their annual Summer Time Food Festival, featuring international cuisine. Dinners up to $10, sides and desserts $1 to $3 (Youth Guidance has some free tickets available for YG families, and mentor/mentee pairs). Family fun, face painting, bounce house, tattoo painting, balloons and more!! Call Crystal Bujol at 778-5118 for information.

July 18 – Sidewalk Chalk Art Graffiti, East entrance of the Indian River Main Library, 1600 21st St., Vero Beach, at 1 pm. Competition of sidewalk chalk art that fits into a piece of 4’x4′ sidewalk. Open to kids of all ages, and the theme is “Heros”. Judging, prizes and refreshments will follow. Call 770-5060 for more information.

July 23 – YG kids get Hooked on Fishing, Wabasso Causeway, 9 am to12 pm. Youth Guidance kids are invited to attend this event for some fantastic fishing fun and food. For unmatched Youth Guidance children of all ages. Call Ginny at 770-5040 to sign up.

July 23-24 – Treasure Coast Marine Flea Market & Seafood Festival, Indian River County Fairgrounds, 9 am to 6 pm. Live music, food, boats, nautical & marine merchandise. Admission is $7 per person, kids 12 and under free. For more information call 954-205-7813.
