GIFFORD – Authorities have identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed late Friday night on 49th Street and 35 Avenue in Gifford as 41-year-old Nicole Lashawn Purter, of Ft. Pierce.
Family members did not why she would have been in the area where the crash occurred, according to Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Tim Firth.
“There is no new information to release about the hit and run vehicle at this time,” he added.
A pedestrian in Gifford was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver overnight Friday, Florida Highway Patrol reported.
According to FHP, Purter was walking in the westbound lane of 49th Street, west of 35th Avenue, when an unknown vehicle struck her and left the scene.
She was left lying in the lane and at an unknown time later, a second vehicle was unable to avoid the woman, FHP said.
That driver stayed at the scene and assisted in the investigation.
