Work underway on Powerline Road in Sebastian

SEBASTIAN – Powerline Road will soon connect Sebastian Boulevard and Main Street after crews finish the road’s extension.

Motorists on Sebastian Boulevard/County Road 512 will notice the crews working on the new portion of the road, near Sebastian Elementary School.

Work is starting from the south and heading north to ensure construction nearest the school is complete before school starts in August.

“It’s moving forward,” City Manager Al Minner said of the $1 million construction project.

The project, as a whole, will cost more than $1 million, with a sidewalk that also links the two main thoroughfares and landscaping.

Construction crews are currently grading and building up the road base of what had mostly been a trail used by official vehicles to get between the two roads.

Minner said despite the recent rains, the project remains mostly on schedule to be complete within the 6-month window allotted on the contract.

Drivers on Sebastian Boulevard need not be concerned about the construction of Powerline Road as all the heavy equipment is located off the road, according to Minner.

However, those wanting to go north on Delaware into the side entrance of the school are encouraged instead to use the school’s main entrance off Sebastian Boulevard.

Powerline Road currently runs south from Main Street to the side entrance of the Ashbury community.
