Indian River County man accused of locking wife in closet, threatening her

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An Indian River County man was arrested after authorities say his wife reported he had locked her in her closet and later threatened to shoot her at the hospital, where she works.

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office arrested Simon Eller, of 56th Lane, Vero Beach, on charges of felony false imprisonment and misdemeanor domestic violence-related battery. He has since been released from the county jail on $2,000 bond.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Eller’s wife, who works as a labor and delivery doctor at the Indian River Medical Center, and Eller got into a verbal argument on Wednesday, when she started to get ready for work.

Eller started an argument, his wife told authorities. During that argument, she said, Eller threatened that if she went to work, he would go to the hospital and shoot her.

The couple struggled as she proceeded to get into her car to leave, the Sheriff’s Office said. She was able to get Eller out of the vehicle by walking him to the front door, at which point she was able to run back to the car and drive away.

The woman told authorities that she was scared for her life because Eller owns several guns.

A few days earlier, Eller locked his wife in her closet and did not let her out until she told him she was no longer mad, his wife told authorities.

Deputies responded to the couple’s home on Wednesday, secured the guns and placed Eller under arrest.
