Habitat: Can you hear the grass cheering?

That tiny little noise you hear is the sound of a ba-zillion blades of grass cheering as they get pelted by this lovely afternoon shower.

Might not be enough to take us off the Extremely Dry Conditions-Fire Danger list that The Weather Channel ominously flashes all day long, but it will surely help. So – keep that umbrella at the ready and don’t fret if your hair-do goes south.

Speaking of water – this happens to be the week the sod was delivered for the large areas around our under-construction building (The Office and Training Center). Many, many pallets of sod were trucked in and placed in stacks (about 4 feet high) all over the ground around the building, resembling (I thought) a BIG chess board.

Workers had begun to lay the sod squares when the daily rain event arrived. So now, after a couple hours of drenching, I bet those babies weigh, like, a half ton. But they are well watered, for sure.

We here at Habitat have – sadly – said goodbye to one of our most inspiring and talented staffers: Senior Construction Supervisor Bob Dvorak, a big, kind, patient guy, who has led crews on our construction sites for five years. I imagine there are hundreds of Habitat volunteers who have learned a great deal about construction working with Bob as their Crew Chief.

Bob has always had a strong heart for Habitat’s mission and has also, over the years, worked in the often dangerous mission field in Haiti.

And that’s where he is returning, to work with a mission based out of Washington State and serving one of the poorest and most desperately needy areas on the planet. We are sad to lose him, but we know he is a man who has been called to this special area of service. God Speed, Bob.

Have a good one.
