Wabasso’s Church of God by Faith breaks ground on outreach center

WABASSO — Just north of County Road 510 and 58th Avenue down a dirt road there are people expanding their church to help more people. Sunday, after a short service, ground was broken on the future site of the new Church of God by Faith Outreach Ministry Center.

“God has touched your hearts and other hearts to make this a reality,” said Pastor Elder Charlie Jones, of The Church of God by Faith.

Christ Church Vero Beach has provided seed money from its Outreach Funds to assist with this building project.  Also, John’s Island donated part of the land for the new facility to add to the portion the church already owned. Habitat for Humanity offered assistance with supplies from their store on US 1.

“This building will be such a blessing to the young people,” said Andy Bowler, of Habitat for Humanity.

According to Pastor Jones, this new Outreach Ministry Center will serve the needy in the Wabasso and Gifford areas.

They plan to use the new facility to hold drug recovery meetings, provide re-entry programs for people who have been incarcerated, as well as counseling for families and individuals to manage their households and families.

They will also continue their food delivery program for the needy and homebound from this new site.

“We’ve broke through the red tape, now we have to break through the ground,” said Fr. Bill Gandenberger.

Construction is anticipated to begin around July 1. Donations continue to be accepted by mail at Church of God by Faith, 1705 38th Street, Vero Beach, FL, 32960.
