Downtown Friday with an Island Party flair

VERO BEACH — Slip into flip flops, a tropical shirt, sunglasses and a straw hat for an Island Party themed Downtown Friday presented by Main Street Vero Beach, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 24 on 14th Avenue in Downtown Vero Beach.

Think Martinique, Florida Keys, Jamaica, Bahamas, and Hawaii….all of the islands that bring to mind a laid back good time.  The Vero Beach band “VooDoo” will entertain for dancing in the streets.  Main Street is featuring Kona Brewing Company’s Fire Rock Pale Ale and Wailua Wheat Ale to pair up well with the tropical themed food.  Budweiser products, wine, soda and water will also be available.

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. The fertilizer ordinances passed by our communities goes into effect June 1st. It prohibits the use of lawn fertilizer between June 1st and September 30th. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
