Weekend Winners: Things to do in Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY-The Sebastian Chamber’s concert in the park series wraps up Friday with Jimmy Buffet-inspired tunes and Dogs for Life will celebrate the certification of two service dogs. The rest of weekend is packed with a children’s fishing event, a hurricane preparedness expo at the mall and a documentary on the war in Afghanistan.

Intrepid Art Gallery at Pelican Plaza in Vero Beach hosts a Solo Exhibition, “Art Sonata in 3D Minor” with mixed media artist David Diaz.

Thursday

Mulligan’s Schools Out Carnival to benefit the American Cancer Society. From 5 – 8 p.m. kids eat free and 20 percent of proceeds are donated to charity.

Friday

12th Annual Concert in the Park Series, 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Riverview Park in Sebastian, with John Mackin playing Jimmy Buffet-style music.  Bring a comfortable lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the local talent and river breezes.

Assistance Dog Program Celebration and Certification Ceremony of two service dogs, 6 p.m. at the Dogs for Life Off-Leash Dog Park Memorial Garden Pavilion.

Saturday

Volunteers needed to pair with Youth Guidance children for Take a Kid Fishing Day, 8 a.m. to noon under the Barber Bridge.

Indian River Mall and 93.7 The Breeze are gearing up for the annual Hurricane Preparedness Expo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The event, in partnership with the North Treasure Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross, will feature an interactive kids zone, emergency response vehicle and more.

Dance Space Spectacular, with performances at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center featuring Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical, Modern, Tap, and Hip Hop performed by students at Dance Space.

Oceanside Business Association Sunset Saturday Night Concert Series at Humiston Park features a Beach Blanket Sock Hop with music by the Beach Cruisers, 6:30 to 9:30 pm. Charity of the evening is Youth Guidance.

Sunday

Free Social Justice Film Series, 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship presents Rethink Afghanistan, a documentary focusing on key issues surrounding the war.  778-5880.
