Weekend Winners: Things to do in Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – From fishing tournaments to benefit the Hibiscus Children’s Center and the Exchange Club of Sebastian to a one-man skate-a-thon to help the American Red Cross and a Learn How to Row Day from the Indian River Rowing Club – this weekend is the time to get out and enjoy some fresh air and sunshine – weather permitting.

Offshore Big 3 Fishing Tournament to benefit the Hibiscus Children’s Center; captains’ party Friday and tournament Saturday at the Ft. Pierce City Marina.

Fifty-five is the magic number for Bill Penney who, to celebrate his 55th birthday, will skate 55 miles to raise money for the American Red Cross North Treasure Coast Chapter. He will skate primarily along A-1-A, beginning at 6 a.m. at South Beach and ending there at approximately 1 p.m.

18th Annual Exchange Club of Sebastian’s Blue Water Open Charity Offshore Fishing Tournament.

LoPresti First Saturday Charity Breakfast at Sebastian Airport, beginning at 9 a.m. to benefit By the River. Host author/pilot Howard Keefe, a renowned winning race pilot will share his exciting P-51 stories and sign copies of his book, “Galloping on Wings.”

Learn to Row Day, hosted by the Indian River Rowing Club, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at MacWilliam Park, with rowing shells, ergometers (rowing machines), experts in the sport, membership information and more.

Youth Guidance Tropical Night Luau to help provide summer camps to YG children, 7 – 11 p.m. at Quail Valley River Club with island cuisine, a cash bar and tropical sounds of Gypsy Lane.  An auction, steel drums and raffles will add to the evening’s activities.

Latin Fiesta Concert presented by the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, 3 p.m. at the Community Church featuring Gershwin’s Cuban Overture, Massenet’s ballet suite from his opera Le Cid, the Carmen Fantasy featuring violinist Suliman Tekalli, Gould’s Symphonette No. 4 (Latin American) and Ginastera’s Danza Final.
