Charles “Bud” Wellington Thorne, Jr., 83, Vero Beach

Charles “Bud” Wellington Thorne, Jr. died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Hospice House in Vero Beach, Florida.

He was born June 8, 1927, in Trenton, N.J., to Charles Wellington Thorne and Helen Young Thorne.

He resided in Trenton, West Trenton, and Yardley, Pa., prior to moving to Vero Beach in 1995.

Thorne graduated from Trenton High School in 1944 and Dartmouth College, in 1948, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and the Sphinx Honorary Society.

He was a partner and professional planner with the architectural firm Faridy Thorne Fraytak, retiring in 1994.

He was a former member and past president of the Trenton Country Club, and a current member of the Moorings Club in Vero Beach, Florida, where he also served on the Board of Directors.

Thorne was also a past president of the Ewing Township Board of Education and a board member and trustee of the Friends of the New Jersey State Museum.

He married Jayne Leavitt Thorne on November 11, 1951.

Survivors include his wife, Jayne, daughters Wendy Thorne Niederer (Thomas) and Helen “Bambi” Thorne Kuhl (Paul); sons Charles “Wells” Wellington Thorne, lll, and Timothy Mackay Thorne; nieces Jane Ellen Barlow and Elizabeth Thorne Barlow; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and Chloe.

He was predeceased by his parents, daughter Julia Kraft Thorne, his sister Jane Thorne Barlow, and nephew George Herbert Barlow, lll.

Contributions may be made to VNA and Hospice House, 1111 35th Street, Vero Beach, Florida 32960, St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 475 43rd Avenue, Vero Beach, Florida, or Trinity Cathedral, 801 West State Street, Trenton, New Jersey.

Funeral services will be held at Trinity Cathedral, 801 West State Street in Trenton, New Jersey on Thursday, June 2, 2011; calling hours will be at the cathedral beginning at 10 a.m. and the service will begin at 11 a.m.

Burial will be immediately following the services at Ewing Cemetery, Scotch Road, Ewing, New Jersey.

A celebration of Bud’s life will be held in Vero Beach in Fall 2011.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.
