Michael H. Carlton, 96, of Vero Beach, died Saturday, May 21, 2011, at his home.
Carlton was born May 2, 1915, in Athens, Ga., and moved to Vero Beach Jan. 1, 1953 from Orlando.
He had been the District Soil Conservationist for the US Department of Agriculture and also worked many years for Vero Beach Laboratory.
He was a charter member of the First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach and he was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving first in the US Army Air Corps and then the US Air Force.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years Edith Scarboro Carlton, of Vero Beach; sons Robert Carlton, of Vero Beach, Don Carlton, of Ft. Pierce and Lee Carlton, of Vero Beach; a daughter Ann Carlton-Sinnott, of Ft. Pierce; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach, 520 Royal Palm Boulevard, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
A life celebration service will begin at 12 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach with Dr. Timothy Womack officiating, followed by a reception at the church.
Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Fort Pierce with military honors by VFW Post 3918.
