Sebastian Chamber to host Rep. Posey with economic forum Feb. 16

SEBASTIAN – The Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce has finally been able to get U.S. Congressman Representative Bill Posey to stop by for a couple hours to discuss issues important to the business community.

The congressman is scheduled to meet with Chamber members on Feb. 16 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Chamber’s office, 700 Main St., Sebastian.

“It may be standing room only,” Chamber Executive Director Beth Mitchell said, explaining that the office can hold between 35 and 40 people. Members are encouraged to call the office to reserve a space at the forum.

Mitchell said that the Chamber has been working with Posey’s staff for the last six months, trying to line up a time the congressman could attend a Chamber luncheon or function.

“I think that it’s awesome,” Mitchell said of Rep. Posey agreeing to visit and discuss the city’s economic situation.

On the agenda might be business tax questions, employee health care, and plans for stimulating job growth.

Mitchell said that along with talking virtually talking one-on-one with the US House Representative, the Chamber hopes to build relationships with Posey’s staff.

This won’t be the congressman’s first visit with a Chamber of Commerce, according to Mitchell. He has visited several other Chambers in his district. His current plans do not include a visit to the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce.

Prior to the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce meeting, the congressman will hold office hours from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Indian River State College Richardson Center, 6155 College Lane, Vero Beach.

“This is an opportunity for Indian River County residents to meet with Congressman Posey and his casework staff regarding issues they might have with Federal agencies or programs, such as the Department of Veteran Affairs, Social Security, Medicare or the IRS,” a spokesman for Posey said in a prepared statement.

Those wishing to meet with the congressman can make an appointment by calling (772) 778-3534.

Sebastian River Area Chamber members can reserve a spot at the forum by calling the Chamber’s office at (772) 589-5969.
