Allen George “Al” Schofield, 79, died May 21, 2011, at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach.
He was born in Whitestone, N.Y., and lived in Sebastian for 26 years, coming from Massapequa, N.Y.
He served in the US Army during the Korean era.
He was a member of the Treasure Coast Retired New York City Firefighters; a member of the NRA and the Indian River Amateur Sportsman’s Club.
He was a volunteer for the Sebastian Police House watch program; the Humane Society; the Sebastian Cemetery Committee; the GFWC Sebastian River Jr. Women’s Club Auxiliary and the Haunted House and 4th of July Events held in Sebastian.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Helga Schofield, of Sebastian; son, Richard Schofield, of Sebastian; daughter and her husband, Michele (Dave) Single, of Massapequa Park, N.Y.; sister, Eva Schofield, of Sebastian; cousin and his wife, Robert (Dolores) Ashcroft, of Sebastian; three grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960 in memory of Allen Schofield.
Visitation will be 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. on May 30, 2011, at Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian with a funeral service being held in the Funeral Home Chapel at 7 p.m. with Rev. Lewis R. Gwyn III of Trinity Episcopal Church, officiating.
A committal service with military honors will be held at 11:15 a.m. on May 31, 2011, at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth.
