John C. Webb, Sr. died suddenly on May 18, 2011.
He was a resident of Vero Beach and Blue Mountain Lake, N.Y.
Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Webb Goodemote, of Rhinebeck, N.Y.; a son, John C. Webb, Jr., of Fishkill, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.
The Webb family resided in Dutchess County, N.Y., for more than a century.
Webb was born to Mr. and Mrs. M. Smith Webb on March 29, 1924.
He enrolled in Middlebury College in 1942.
He joined the Armed Forces in 1943.
Webb served in the China Burma India (CBI) Theater during his hostilities.
In 1946, Webb married Helen (Dolly) Larson and completed his college studies at Middlebury College in 1948.
Following graduation, he joined Edwin J. Webb & Son, now Emery & Webb Inc., an insurance firm in Beacon, which was founded by his grandfather in 1886.
In 1958, Webb was awarded the degree of CPCU, (Charted Property & Casualty Underwriter).
In 1964, he became president of the firm.
During his career, Webb served on the board of directors at Highland Hospital, in Beacon, N.Y.
At the end of his service, he was vice president of the board.
He also served on the board of directors for United Way on Dutchess County, N.Y.
Webb also served on the original planning board for the Town of Fishkill, which was established in the 50’s to prioritize the growth of the town.
He was a member of the Hopewell Reformed Church, Hopewell Junction, where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher.
He retired in 1989 and moved to Vero Beach in 1996.
Webb is predeceased by his wife, Helen (Dolly).
Memorial Services will be held on May 20, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach.
Funeral Services and Interment will be in Fishkill, N.Y.
