John A. Cronin, 90, of Vero Beach, died Saturday, May 14, 2011 at his home.
Cronin was born Oct. 8, 1920, in Lowell, Mass., and moved to Vero Beach in 1986 from his place of birth.
He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts and his master’s degree from the University of Connecticut.
Cronin had served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II and had been part of the China-Burma-India (CBI) Theatre) Airlift traveling over the Himalaya Mountains.
His role in education found him as the principal of Bartlett Jr. High School in Lowell at the time of his retirement.
He was a member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years Martha J. Cronin, of Vero Beach; a granddaughter Jessica Laurin Cronin, of Melbourne; daughter-in-law and son-in-law Cheryl and Steve Barry, of Melbourne; a sister Rosamond Martin, of Lowell; two sister-in-laws Stella Bakey, of Lowell and Florence Downs, of Methuen, Mass.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son Jeffrey John Cronin.
