Edwin “Richard” Haarde, 92, Sebastian

Edwin “Richard” Haarde, 92, died May 8, 2011, at his home.

He was born in Dumont, N.J., and lived in Sebastian for 33 years, coming from Bethany Beach, Del.

Before retirement, he was a music teacher for the Sussex (Del.) School District for 14 years and for the Curtis Circulation Co. for 10 years in Philadelphia.

He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II.

He was a member of the Sussex County Music Educators Association.

He was a member of the Lions Club and choir director at a number of churches.

He served on the board of directors of Park Place HOA.

He also composed and published many arrangements and conducted a number of symphonies.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Emily Haarde, of Sebastian; daughter, Emily Louise Cobb, of Melbourne; sons, Edwin Richard Haarde Jr., of Sebastian and Barry Douglas Haarde, of Woodlands, Texas; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, John Francis Haarde; brothers, Frederick W. Haarde and Harold A. Haarde; and a granddaughter.
