Ocean Science Lecture Series on Lionfish

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – On Wednesday, June 8 at 7 p.m., the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute at FAU Ocean Science Lecture Series will present Bob Hickerson, Maria Andreu and Pamela Schofield lecturing on Lionfish, A Perfect Invader?

The lionfish, native to the Indo-Pacific region has managed to accomplish what no other previous marine species has ever been able to … they have now established themselves throughout the Caribbean as far south as South America, the Gulf of Mexico, and have been spotted up the Atlantic Seaboard as far north as Long Island and continue to reproduce at an alarming rate.

How did this happen?  What are the experts saying?  What are the short and long-term consequences?  What is presently being done about it?  How can we help?

Off season lectures are presented monthly on a Wednesday. An opportunity to meet the speaker, appetizer buffet and cash bar follow the presentation.

The lectures are open to the public, free of charge and reservations are not required.
