Claude G. Blanchard, 85, Vero Beach

Claude G. Blanchard, 85, died April 23, 2011, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.

He was born in Waterloo, Quebec, and was a part-time resident of Vero Beach since 1991.

Before retiring, he was a union electrician and worked for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Jersey City, N.J., and General Motors in Linden, N.J.

He served in the Royal Canadian 22nd Regiment during World War II.

He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach and Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Germaine Blanchard, of Vero Beach; sons, Alan Blanchard, of New City, N.Y., and Colin Blanchard, of Mays Landing, N.J.; brothers, Philippe Blanchard and Jacques Blanchard, both of Canada; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA/Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th St., Vero Beach, FL 32960.

A prayer service will be at a later date at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach.
