Amy Jo Wetherald, 32, Vero Beach

Amy Jo Wetherald, 32, of Vero Beach, died suddenly April 17, 2011, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.

Born in Tulsa, Okla, she had been a resident of Vero Beach for 22 years, coming from Pompano Beach.

Survivors include her parents, Gary S. and Virginia M. Wetherald, of Vero Beach; her mother, Kim Blackbear, of Pompano Beach; three sisters, Kaye R. Wetherald, Alicia N. Combs, and Sherry L. Wetherald, all of Vero Beach.

A celebration of her life will be held April 29, 2011, from 2-4 p.m. at the Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory of Vero Beach.

Family, friends, marines honor ‘protector, hometown hero’

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Frank Strahorn was already considered a hero by his family, friends and marine brothers and sisters because of his military service around the world. Then, on June 19, the 34-year-old became a "hometown hero" after he was fatally shot while helping others escape a gunman carrying an AK-47 assault rifle at a Sebastian pizzeria.
