American Red Cross Hurricane Hangar Party

VERO BEACH — The American Red Cross will host its Third Annual Hurricane Hangar Party from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 13 at the Sun Aviation Hangar in the Vero Beach Airport.

The event is a great opportunity to have fun while learning more about the need for hurricane preparedness. In contrast to the “ominous” reputation of Friday the 13th, the Hurricane Hangar Party will focus on the positive advantages of hurricane prevention methods.

The free event combines critical hurricane information and prevention-related vendors with lighthearted activities, such as a silent auction, poker stroll, art exhibitors, food, hurricane drinks and music by OPM. Attendees are invited to bring their own chairs, come rain or shine, to enjoy the educational and exciting evening.

Participants of all ages can compete in the Corn Hole contest, and adults can enter for a chance to will a hatful of lottery tickets. Additional activities include an Amateur Radio Emergency Services display, a fun Photo Book, Face Painting station, and Balloon Animals.

Handcrafted artwork from vendors such as Recycled Art and Soaps by Paula, as well as various informational merchandise booths such as 1-800-BoardUp, Emergency Services and Reconstruction, Paul Davis Restoration, and the National Weather Service will be on display. The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization, not a government agency, and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
