Marilyn R. Sommerville, 61,Vero Beach

Marilyn R. Sommerville, 61, died April 9, 2011, at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.

She was born in Richmond, Va., and lived in Vero Beach for seven years, coming from Olympia, Wash.

She was a special education teacher at Westwood High School in Fort Pierce.

Survivors include her husband of 21 years, David W. Sommerville, of Vero Beach; son, Samuel R. Sommerville, of Jacksonville; brother, Rob Flora, of Jacksonville; sisters, Christie R. McLean, of Eagle River, Ark. and Gail C. Rogers, of Mechanicsville, Va.; and one grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the , 3375 20th St., Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Services and interment will be private.

Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory of Vero Beach.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
