James Eli Hare, 80, died April 10, 2011, at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.
He was born in Kimmelton, Pa., and lived in Vero Beach since 1989, coming from Johnstown, Pa.
He retired after 34 years in the railcar division of Bethlehem Steel.
He also worked as an electrician in Pennsylvania and Florida.
He served in the Army and during the Korean War in the 40th Infantry Division and the 223rd Combat Infantry Regiment.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a member of the Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Zona M. Findley Hare; sons, Robert James Hare, of Cairnbrook, Pa., and David Allen Hare, of Mifflintown, Pa; daughter, Tamela E. Hare Ewing, of Easton, Md.; brother, Benjamin Hare; sisters, June Lambert, Grace Duppstadt, and Geraldine Peterson; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Hare; and sisters, Gertrude Mostoller and Phyllis Gelet.
No local services are planned at this time.
A private interment will take place later this summer in Graef’s Cemetery in Cairnbrook.
